This is a basic datasheet which is meant to be used as a guide to building a datasheet for any simple biodiversity inventory. You should add more fields depending on the requirement and aims of the study. If you want to carry out a slightly more complex study such as a biodiversity measurement study you’ll need to add more fields (see the biodiversity measurement datasheet). Adding a column for the number of individuals observed (for each species) to this standard datasheet and using a standard method of sampling every time you sample, will enable you to determine the relative abundance as well as use the data for  biodiversity measurement indices.

Serial No.  Species (Scientific Name) Common Name

As you observe each species in the area you are undertaking the inventory, write it down in the data sheet above.
